With friendly, helpful hosts and a cosy, warm atmosphere, this one of the best places we’ve stayed. From the breathtaking views to the comfy and beautifully equipped accommodation with its warm and relaxing spa, Niki and Piet have created a true oasis of tranquility in a hectic world. While Shetland itself was even better than we’d hoped for, our trip was made truly special with our stay at Voortrekker.

Voortrekker ranks as one of the top places I've ever stayed. Not only was the apartment very evidently thoughtfully handcrafted (half of the furniture is built-in) it was also very functional with everything well supplied, especially the kitchen. This was only made better by its location, with amazing views and perfectly positioned near the airport and for adventuring in any direction you'd wish. The spa is a fantastic addition. Lastly, Niki and Piet were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable hosts – plus they helped me out (twice!) when I had car trouble. As a woman travelling solo, the apartment struck the perfect balance of privacy/independence and security/safety. I highly recommend staying here!

Spacious home with a harbor view in the heart of Scalloway, within walking distance of excellent restaurants and the outstanding Scalloway museum.

Beautiful home-away-from home with lovely hosts! Lerwick is a special town on its own, but our experience as first time visitors was truly elevated with guidance from Jane and John. We are sad to leave but look forward to our return sometime in the future!!

I loved staying in the Weaving Shed studio - I loved its privacy and peacefulness. It is in a beautiful area and I was able to go to Eshaness twice to see the place in different weather. The nearby beach was also a delight. Thanks to all the facilities in the flat and a well-stocked shop just across the road I was able to be self-sufficient. NCDC staff were very responsive and the Northern Lights alert messages were an extra sweet touch - many thanks. I'd love to visit the place again, and as an artist I would use it for self-directed residency.

We had such an amazing stay at Jenny & Pete's! The home was so comfortable, with a really great kitchen set up and a fabulous shower (strong pressure and super hot!) and the most beautiful views over the hill side and cove below. Very convenient to Lerwick, right at a bus stop and less than 10 minutes from town. Jenny was also a really great host, flexible with our check in time and dropping off luggage early, and even helping us sort some car trouble at the end of the trip! Highly recommend!

Da Crubbit was the perfect holiday cottage. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Peaceful, with fabulous views. We have had an amazing 2 weeks. Many thanks for having us to stay. We are already looking forward to returning.

Lovely stay in this beautiful setting - plenty of life to entertain us! The apartment is very comfortable and well appointed, cosy in the unusually cool June weather. The welcome hamper was great and everything we needed in the kitchen, lovely coffee machine. Lots of good information to help us have a great stay. The hot water is amazing! Lots of lovely hot baths, much needed after long walks. We would recommend The Golden Coach Chinese restaurant, Seabirds and Seals boat tours and Grant’s minibus tours. Thank you Gil and Kareene for letting us stay, we were sad to leave and would love to come again some time 😊.

What a wonderful place! Perfect if you want to get away from it all and enjoy many home comforts. Sylvia was fabulous. We arrived at dead of night in thick snow after a flight delay due to extreme weather. Sylvia quickly contacted a friendly neighbour who came around instantly with a shovel to clear the snow. Her kitchen is the best stocked one I have ever stayed at. Vidlin is a great base to explore Shetland including the far north islands of Yell and Unst. The whole area is a walkers paradise with beautiful scenery all around. Due to the season most tourist places are closed so you need to be a pretty independent traveller. Stock up on food shopping in Lerwick although there is a small convenience store a short walk away - no pubs or close by restaurants/cafes.

Magical place! Honestly the photos of the Bulwark undersell it - it’s gorgeous!! Such a beautiful cottage in a stunning location. We didn’t want to leave! Kitchen is extremely well equipped. Jolene our host couldn’t have been more helpful and quick to respond to questions like ‘where’s the supermarket and is it open?’! Spotlessly clean. Comfortable and beautifully designed. We were so glad we weren’t in Lerwick, Scalloway is the place to stay on Shetland. Beautiful walks and a peaceful harbour. We even saw an otter right outside our window! And managed a little sea dip 🥶💪 We would love to come back and stay at the Bulwark again ❤️

A perfect location for us on our trip to Shetland. Located in a quiet area and easily walkable to the local hotel and restaurant. A nice way for us to relax after a hard day's coaching in Lerwick. We really enjoyed our trip and will look forward to coming back.

We had a lovely stay at Stephanie’s in south Shetland! The house lovely and spacious and has a great view of the bay, especially from the kitchen. We were able to go on some lovely walks from the house, and it’s also conveniently close to the airport. The house is well insulated so you don’t get any airplane noise. Overall a wonderful place to stay!
