Greek Honey sampling on an Athens tasting tour

Join me for a flavorful journey into the world of Greek beekeeping and gastronomy. I’ll share the rich history of Greek beekeeping, a tradition my family has upheld since 1935, brought to life with artifacts and stories from our heritage. • We’ll start with a honey and olive oil tasting at my family’s Melira shop, sampling eight rare monovarietal honeys like carob, heather, and thyme and olive oil from our olive groves . I’ll share stories about how we relocate beehives to areas with specific flowers and plants, and you’ll enjoy cutting and tasting fresh honeycomb . • Next, we’ll visit a nearby spot to try handmade loukoumades (Greek donuts) topped with monovarietal honeys, praline, and traditional spoon sweets like black cherry and grape. At another cozy location, you’ll savor Greek yogurt paired with different honeys, discovering how each enhances the yogurt’s creamy richness. • We’ll finish back at the shop, where I’ll answer your questions, share tips, and help you find your favorite flavors. You’ll leave with a small jar of honey, handmade soap, and sweet memories, along with a deeper appreciation for Greece’s culinary traditions.

This tasting against a historic backdrop is a journey into the heart of Greek wine culture. We’ll explore some of Greece’s most exceptional wines, selected to showcase the diversity of our country’s terrain and native grape varieties. • I’ll greet you on the 1st floor of Tekila restaurant in the heart of Athens. We’ll sip our first wine and discuss how climate, soil, and traditional techniques have shaped its character. • We’ll taste wines from several more regions, delving into the history and unique qualities of each one. In an interactive segment, I’ll teach you how to analyze wines, identify key flavor profiles, and distinguish subtle variations. • We’ll tie together what we’ve learned by exploring an especially deep and complex wine. I’ll answer questions and provide personalized recommendations. You’ll leave with a refined palate, newfound tasting skills, and an appreciation for Greek grapes and the winemakers who transform them into pleasure.

Bake a Greek breakfast pie with a celebrated chef

The scent of smoldering coals and freshly baked dough fills the air as we gather to embrace one of Greece’s most time-honored traditions: making Greek breakfast pie. This isn’t just a cooking class but a journey—from kneading the dough to baking over an open fire, every step is a story in and of itself. • Upon arrival at Akra, I’ll walk you through our restaurant and bakery, where we’ll discuss the philosophy of using seasonal, organic ingredients in Greek cuisine. • Next, we’ll prepare the fire together, learning how to control heat for baking over hot coals. Make your own dough from scratch and roll it out. • Together, we’ll prepare a seasonal hortopita (wild greens pie), assembling both a large communal pie and personal mini pies. As they bake, you’ll learn about the significance of fire cooking, ingredient selection, and time-honored baking methods. • Once they are golden and crisp, we’ll plate the pies with fresh eggs and artisanal cheeses and then enjoy them together. With every bite, you’ll taste not just the ingredients, but the heritage and hospitality that make Greek food truly special.

The no 1 Airbnb experience in all of Greece! Discover the most authentic and fresh, traditional Athenian food in non tourist areas and hidden spots of Athens! The places you may not find alone! Visit local streets and see, taste and shop for cheese, cured meat, fruits, sweets and spices in the markets full of colour, scents and noise. Sample olives, oil and honey from a farmer and local barrel wine made on the tavernas premises. On tours starting at 3.00pm , the fish and meat market are starting to close so we go quickly to see as much as possible. On Sundays and weekly tours starting after 3.30pm markets ARE SHUT so on this tour we will visit a taverna and eat traditional Athenian food and go to a spice shop and a honey and olive oil producer to taste these amazing products! We will enjoy a fantastic deli with a cured meat and cheese tasting and sample Greek coffee and fruits from a local producer. Many tastings offered including sit down meals of meat and fish on all our tours, as you learn about Greek culture from people who live it daily. You will have many friends in Athens at the end of this experience! Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are available however, vegan options NOT available on Sundays. Get the chance to know how to cook all the dishes you will try, and get local insight into recipes, tips for Athens, the islands and the culinary traditions. Enjoy a unique gastronomic experience while you try traditional Greek food in the best places. Feel safe by joining my small size groups, skip crowded tours and tourist traps while you explore all the hidden gems of Athens known to locals. The price covers all food and drinks during the tour. You'll taste Athens' best Greek pie and other local snacks. I'll take you to the Food market (except Sundays and Saturdays/weekdays after 4 pm) where we'll interact with local vendors and mingle with Athenians doing their daily food shopping. We'll visit old local shops with spices, herbs and local ingredients used in the Greek cuisine. You'll enjoy a unique tasting of Greek products (cured meats, cheeses, local wine, tsipouro, olives etc) . We'll have seated lunch in a traditional restaurant and try the famous Greek dessert known from old times. All in all, you'll enjoy more than 15 delicious traditional food tastings! IMPORTANT NOTE Meeting point and places/tastings may be different on weekdays/Saturdays after 4 pm & Sundays (some places/delis and the food market are closed).
